Day 14 - Barberton to Akron
After eating a healthy breakfast provided by New Horizons Federal Credit Union, we left the Wolf
Creek trailhead in Barberton early Saturday morning to head for Akron Children's Hospital.
Seventeen marchers enjoyed the sunny day, as we began our walk to Akron Children's Hospital.
When we arrived at BFG Federal Credit Union later that morning, we were greeted by 18 more
marchers, eager to join us on our final leg to the hospital, but not before taking a break to enjoy
the snacks and beverages provided and served by representatives from Sentry Insurance.
Our final walk into Akron Children's Hospital from BFG Credit Union was just a very short walk
and took us along a very nice section of the Towpath Trail that is almost hidden by
the buildings of downtown Akron and that most of us had never walked.
When we arrived at the hospital, we were greeted by Nicci Avalon, a representative from
the Akron Children's Hospital Foundation and one of their very own "miracle" children and
her mother. We all listened intently as they told us just how much the hospital has been
an important part of their lives when she was diagnosed with a rare immune disorder.
It really brought all of our efforts in to focus. |
