Kickoff Event - Sunday, April 5, Hopewell Federal CU in Newark to CES CU in Utica

Day 1: Newark to Utica (12 miles)

Off and running! Close to 20 eager credit union employees and supporters put feet to the pavement for a 12 mile walk on Sunday. Cammie Morrow and Al Smith provided a great send off for the marchers with breakfast, goodies, and motivational words.

It was a beautiful, sunny day for one of the longest legs of our 19 day march to Cleveland. John Rowley (retired Ohio Credit Union League Employee) piloted our RV (aka portable potty). Kim Hudson (Credit Union of Ohio) served as co-pilot and photographer.

Along the way, marchers picked up a cute four-legged companion (see pic above) to join on part of the journey. Though he would've served as a great mascot for the remainder of the march, the RV made a detour to return him home to his loving family.

In record time, marchers arrived in Utica by 1:40 and were greeted by the CES Credit Union crew (Kelly, Jay, and others) for a fantastic reception. The Hufford House Museum provided a delicious spread of freshly cooked food, Iced Tea, and famous Velvet Ice Cream. It was truly the perfect way to start our Marching Miles event!
